Diving - Aliwal Shoal

by MikeAtSea

The small beach town of Scottburgh is the gateway point to one of the finest diving areas of Southern Africa - the Aliwal Shoal. The Shoal is situated some 5 kilometers off the coast of a between Umkomaas and Scottburgh. The Shoal runs in a north to south direction and is a little less than 5 kilometers long. It is home to a large variety of fish, coral, and mammalian life forms. The reefs location is on the inner edge of the warm Mozambique current which allows for often excellent visibility as well as pelagic visitors who thrill divers by making an appearance every so often. The annual migration of the pilchard Sardinops sagax into the Kwa-Zulu/Natal coastal waters from late May to early July offers the most amazing natural history spectacle you are ever likely to witness.Associated with this migration of the sardines are large numbers of Bronze Whaler sharks, Dusky sharks, Common...

Diving - Sodwana Bay

by MikeAtSea

Sodwana Bay is undoubtedly the diver’s paradise in South Africa. Boasting the most southern coral reef in the world many reefs can be found off the coast. Because of its warm waters brought down from the Mozambique Current it makes it a pleasant diving region. The coral however does not form a continuous reef but splits in separated into a number of reefs. All are reached from the launching area of Jesser Point, and are done by small boat through the surf. Divers help to push the boat into the shallows, jump in once the engines have started and then hold tight as the skipper steers the boat through the oncoming surf. All equipment can be hired in Sodwana Bay, including Nitrox. My preferred operator is Reefteach who are VERY good!

MOTOR SPORT

by PEE-WEE

This is a superb 'lifetime' event, justly dubbed the 'Ultimate Motorsports Driving Day. If you like speed, and reckon you've got what it takes to rip round a circuit in awesomely powerful cars, then this is for you.

FLYING

by PEE-WEE

These experiences give you the chance to experience at first hand the freedom and privilege of private flying. Having your own plane is a luxury most of us can't afford, so this is a great opportunity to experience, albeit briefly, the life of the jet set. You'll receive one-to-one tuition from a CAA qualified instructor, who'll give you a rundown of the plane, talk you through all the pre-flight checks, and then you'll be up and away. You'll be able to take the controls (er... not home with you, obviously), and be a pilot in a matter of minutes - though a spin round the skies is not actually enough to qualify you for anything, except having had a great time.

GLIDING

by PEE-WEE

If you've ever wanted to sail like a bird in the big blue, but have been understandably nervous about your ability to flap your arms fast enough, then gliding is for you. You don't have to be rich to climb into a beautifully graceful glider and sweep across the skies, away from the bustle and haste of land-dwellers. No droning engines, smelly fumes and tiny windscreens, just an awesome rush of wind and a staggering view though the canopy.

WHITE WATER RAFTING.

by PEE-WEE

White water rafting is a major rush. At the mercy of a pounding torrent you just have to let yourself go! It is a sport that really gets you going ,mankind and nature ,each with a will of their own.

BUNGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

by PEE-WEE

There are those that have, and those that haven't. For those that have, you know what we're talking about here; you've taken the leap of faith, you've felt the awesome head-spin, your stomach in your mouth, the split-second of abject terror, swiftly followed by an exhilaration your body barely knows how to deal with. The rush of throwing yourself into the void against all internal shouts of self-preservation, and the silly grinning aftermath, jelly-legged and yet pumped up, as you walk away with a swagger in your step - you've joined the club. For those that haven't yet plunged, well it's a bit like that, but only more so. Not likely to forget this experience. Many places in South Africa offer this extreme sport called Bungi Jumping, mainly done over river gorges or from platforms. Here participants tie a rope to their legs and JUMP.Very scary at first ,but once you have done it once you...

QUAD BIKES

by PEE-WEE

These top of the range Quads with automatic gearboxes are terrific fun whatever the weather. Taking these awesome quad bikes into the veld tracks is about as much fun as you can get off road. These four-wheeled multi-terrain machines are capable of up to 50 mph and will almost go anywhere, which is just as well with acres of African bushveld at your disposal. Very simple controls ensure that even if you have never ridden a bike, or even driven a car, you will quickly get to grips with these wicked machines. Helmet,Quad bike, gloves and maybe some longs and a good long sleeved shirt in case you go through the mud.

Scuba Madness!

by TracyG

It has to be diving with great white sharks in Cape Town! I didn't take part in this craziness myself but my friend did, and his face was enough to put me off, though it did sound incredible. All equipment provided.
