For those who love to gamble, Sun City does have a huge casino surrounded by resort style facilities and even a big Tidal Pool for the kids to play at while you are playing. The complex also has golf courses. To reach the resort and gambling casino, you have to ride a short train ride from the entrance. There are 338 rooms and four suites, and all the standard rooms at The Palace of the Lost City have an entrance foyer, en-suite bathroom, lounge and seating area, air-conditioning, radio, tv, telephone, safe, minibar and butler station. by dejavu2gb One of the main reasons why so many visit Sun City, is for the gambling. Many come here with the hopes of winning that million that is desired by many. Main Gambling areas are at the Entertainment Centre which is close to the Cascades Hotel. Then at the Sun City Hotel, there is another casino. All casinos have machines, as well as Roulette and Blackjack. Leave a Comment

The Palace by dejavu2gb This ranks as one of the most extraordinary hotels in the world. It forms the centrepiece of the amazing Palace of the Lost City. This fairytale was built with incredible attention to detail with interiors featuring exquisite mosaics and amazing hand painted ceilings depicting the South Africa's wildlife and culture. Quite amazing when you think that that this is located in a very remote part in South Africa, far from everything, pretty much an oasis in the middle nowhere! Leave a Comment

Well this is absolutely beautiful , The story behind the Bridge is that the bridge is guarded by Elephants which is the link to the Hall of Treasures in the Lost City Entertainment area. The funny thing is that there is a volcano that errupts every hour. Remember I told you its all man made. Leave a Comment

Adjoining the Resort, is the beautiful Pilanesberg National Park, which will delight game viewers as it is a malaria free zone and home to the Big 5. Game Trackers, specialist Wildlife Safari's Tour Operators are situated at the Welcome Centre and guests of Sun City Resort can also enjoy personalised game viewing at the neighbouring 55 000-hectare, malaria free Pilanesberg National Park. There are several wildlife options for guests to choose from. When I was here we choose to go Bakubung. There is other gates like Kwa Maritane. Gigantic Statues of Animals by LoriPori Although Hans and I enjoyed our day at Sun City, you really can't take it seriously. It's certainly a popular draw with locals and foreign visitors, but in my opinion it doesn't hold a candle to the real South Africa, like the Natal coast, the wonderful Game Reserves, like Hluhleuwe and Mkuzi that we had the privilege of experiencing. These are the real jewels of South African tourism. Leave a Comment

Valley of the Waves by LoriPori One of the more outstanding features of Sun City was the VALLEY OF THE WAVES. Before I had ever seen or heard of Wave Pools, here was one in the middle of South Africa. The amazing thing is the whole beach area was created --- yes --a fake beach. Pilansberg is a neighbour of Sun City and the Lost City. A good idea is to live in one, and visit the other. Two vastly different experiences! The park has over 200km of good dirt roads, so one feels confident as a driver to self-drive. They have guided day and night tours too. The park is actually in the setting of an extinct volcano... with many rare types of plant life and rocks structures, with some minerals found too, it is studied by scientists and geologists from all over the world. In the park you will find a number of Iron and Stone Age sites... very exciitng! The whole park is bordered by 3 ridges/rings of hills. This structure of the park is named the 'Pilanesberg National Park Alkaline Ring Complex'. Its vegetation is 'bushveld', settled inbetween the dry Kalahari desert and the more lush 'lowveld'. The brain child of a man who had a Standard 8 (which in international terms means he did not complete his basic schooling). He went on to build an empire in Sun City, and then Lost City next door, in a terrain that is rugged and quite harsh. He has built an oasis in the midst of this, and created employment for thousands of locals, where unemployment is rife. We never got to go here as kids because we didn’t have the extra money for the excursion, but as a young adult I started to go a few times with friends from Technikon, for pop concerts (Richard Marx), and to spend the day in the sun and sea in The Lost City. Not being one who enjoys gambling, I didn’t do much of that – but if you DO enjoy gambling, this is a gambling mecca! They do conduct a 'responsible gambling policy', not sure exactly what that entails, but as it can become an addiction, they have obviously taken strides to prevent this. They work in conjunction with a National Responsible Gambling Programme Toll Free Helpline: 0800 006 008. Easily driveable from Johannesburg (2 hours drive), this is a lovely day outing/week end getaway for the family, or with friends. There is a bus service that operates from some of Johannesburg's finest hotels. Leave a Comment

Bridge of Time by dejavu2gb Guarded by mightly African Elephants, is the Bidge of Time. This bridge links the Entertainment Centre to the Valley of the waves. On regular intervals throughout the day it will start rumbing giving the impression that its a erupting volcano. Quite cool really, and very popular amongst visitors. Leave a Comment
