Adventure Mountain

Openseas 832 reviews

The adventure mountain is designed for children who are not allowed to use the slides due to a height regulation. There is a mini slide and a good size splash pool and different monuments of elephants and other animals to keep the young ones entertained.

The Animal Farm is free of charge and its really fabulous if you have little ones. There is a good variety of animals and an aviary is attached. You can also witness the eagles being trained and fed.

Watch out for the monkeys which love to steal your bananas or food.

The farm is located opposite kamp kwena on the Cabanas' Hotel grounds.

Botancial Gardens.

Openseas 832 reviews

The Palace of The Lost City is surrounded by a 25 hectare botanical jungle with thousands of plants, trees and shrubs. Most I can identify because Sth Africa has almost the same plants as Australia.

The gardens are threaded with paths meandering past cascades and waterfalls, lakes and pools and a variety of water rides. It is set next door, in the spark ruggedness of the Pilanesberg National Park, where elephants, rhinos, lions, and antelope roam freely through their natural habitats. It’s supposed to be the seventh wonder of the world, I can uderstand why they say that, because it is so incredible, amazing and wonderful.

The bashful zebra that walked around us :)
1 more image

Many people think that the zebra is a gentle and mild-mannered animal.

This is incorrect.

It doesnt take much for them to take fright, and get upset, they can be quite unpredictable too.

If their ears fold back, the best thing is to get out of the area as quickly as you can (without frightening the animals of course).

Each stripe on a zebra is different and this is how zebras recognise one another.

The magnificent hornbill!

I was lying in bed, with a little bit of sun stroke (I have been living in England for too long haha), when my husband called through to me to come and have a look at this bird outside!

I called through not to worry, get some shots of it, and I'll look at them later...

Upon seeing them I could have clouted him!!!

Had he mentioned it was a gorgeous hornbill, I would have been out of the bed in a shot!

This is a particularly fine example of one, albeit it being too domestic in my opinion.

It is obviouslt used to the people in the camp and it literally came up to the lounge window and started tapping at it, with its beak!!! *tap tap tap*

It did this for a few minutes and then flew up onto a low branch of the tree.

My husband took many shots of it at different angles. It hung around for about 15 minutes, and then flew off.

What a sighting! :)

Thanks for the story dear, but please, next time you see a bird such as this??? Please tell me to get off my rusty dusty and get to it! Thank you.

The small things...
Jenniflower profile photo

When people come to game parks in Africa, they are often only on the look out for one of the Big Five... lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino.

Some also come to see the birds and smaller animals, like warthogs, springbok and meercat.

Then there are some who come to see it all!

We literally get on the floor at ant hills and take photos of them going about their business.

There are loads of ant hills around the park, and we dont get out for these (for obvious reasons, we then become part of the food chain!), these ants in the photo were ants in our actual camp.

Amazing little creatures!
