The giraffe makes no apparent noise, and seems quite aloof to all that goes on around him/her.
People find this intriguing.
This 'non-sound' is called 'infrasound', and this is how they comunicate with one another.
They live to about 25 years old, with a tongue that can reach 53 centimetres long! They are 'prehensile'.. which means that they can easily grab and hold onto various objects with this tongue.
They are the tallest creature in the wild, standing a proud 1.9metres tall at its birth (and in its socks haha)

There are all kinds of wildlife in the park.
It has what most tourists are keen to see, the 'Big Five' (leopard, lion, white and black rhino, elephant and buffalo), plus much more in the shape and form of smaller animals, like the hyaena, the springbok, giraffe, zebra, cheetah, sable, crocodiles and hippos being some of them.
Tons of little insects too.. sadly overlooked often by visitors.
We brought our sister-in-law to the park, and she had NEVER seen an elephant beofre (or any of the other animals!), outside of books and postcards. Not even a zoo.
It was delightful watching her face as we came across yet another animal. We were fortunate and saw the entire 'big five' that day.

Pilansberg is a neighbour of Sun City and the Lost City.
A good idea is to live in one, and visit the other. Two vastly different experiences!
The park has over 200km of good dirt roads, so one feels confident as a driver to self-drive. They have guided day and night tours too.
The park is actually in the setting of an extinct volcano... with many rare types of plant life and rocks structures, with some minerals found too, it is studied by scientists and geologists from all over the world.
In the park you will find a number of Iron and Stone Age sites... very exciitng!
The whole park is bordered by 3 ridges/rings of hills. This structure of the park is named the 'Pilanesberg National Park Alkaline Ring Complex'.
Its vegetation is 'bushveld', settled inbetween the dry Kalahari desert and the more lush 'lowveld'.

There is a vast bird presence in the park. They have over 300 recorded species.
There is a walk you can do where you learn all about them and the environment you are in.
There is also an aviary you can viist where you can see about 8 different species of birds.
Whatever you do, do not forget your binoculars, and its always a good idea to have a South African bird book on hand.
The hides are a wonderful way of viewing the birds. They are hardly aware you are there as you are under cover, and it is sheltered, with seating.
The floors do creak alot though, so be careful to walk as quietly as possible, so as not to frighten the birds away.

This is a beautiful amphitheatre. Its situated just below the Royal Bath. There is alot of stairs going down and alot going up.
I`ve seen this amphitheatre used as a venue whereby some performing acts was on display at the bottom and it made excellent seating area all around.

This a beautiful a gong that can`t be missed when passing the Royal Arena. Its a bit of a steep climb to get to the top but its worth it as it makes a wonderful photo.
Its said that the gong saved the ancient people by summoning them to the safety of the Royal Arena shortly before the earthquake devastated their homes.

No visit to Sun City is complete without a game drive through the Pilansberg National Park.
The park has a very large variety of animals which include the Big Five.
Game Drives can be done independently and with your own car, or if you wish you can go on a guided game drive, which is very educational as they teach you very interesting facts about the animals.

Monkey Spring Plaza is there to commemorate a troop of monkeys that saved the lives of an ancient tribe from starvation during a drought.
Its a really nice water feature, showing monkeys sitting down with their hands sticking out, and the water running between their fingers, very well done.

Guarded by mightly African Elephants, is the Bidge of Time.
This bridge links the Entertainment Centre to the Valley of the waves.
On regular intervals throughout the day it will start rumbing giving the impression that its a erupting volcano.
Quite cool really, and very popular amongst visitors.

One of the main reasons why so many visit Sun City, is for the gambling.
Many come here with the hopes of winning that million that is desired by many.
Main Gambling areas are at the Entertainment Centre which is close to the Cascades Hotel.
Then at the Sun City Hotel, there is another casino.
All casinos have machines, as well as Roulette and Blackjack.
