Kimberley

by mvtouring

Kimberley is probly best known as the diamond city in South Africa, and it also happen to be the capital of the Northern Cape. The town has considerable historical significance due its diamond mining past and siege during the Second Boer War. Notable personalities such as Cecil Rhodes made their fortune here and the roots of the De Beers corporation can also be traced to the early days of the mining town. It is one of the best places to visit if you want to see how the diamond diggers worked and lived at the hight of the diamond industry. A lovely city with lots to offer the traveller.

Tip Photo
Griquatown/Griekwastad

by mvtouring

Another off the beaten track town in my country that not many tourists might visit. A lot of game farming and sheep farming (primarily dorpers, a South African breed ) are done here. It is situated in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa about 150 km from the city of Kimberley. It has the unique distinction of being the first town to be established north of the Orange River. today it looks rather dilapidated as most people move away from the smaller towns to the big cities.

Tip Photo
Dealesville

by mvtouring

Dealesville is one of those places that not many tourists will visit. And that is with good reason, because this mixed farming town in the Free State province of South Africa is very remote and not much is happening here. It is surrounded by numerous salt pans. There are many natural springs in the vicinity, most notably Florisbad some 35 km from the town.

Tip Photo
Britstown

by mvtouring

I often drive through the small haven of Britstown along the diamond route when I go and visit friend up country. Britstown was named after a man who loved the Karoo, Hans Brits. He once accompanied Dr David Livingstone, famous son-in-law of the great missionary Robert Moffat, on a journey to the north. Livingstone originally came to South Africa to help the Moffats at their mission in Kuruman, and it was on a journey to the north that he met Brits. Today Britstown is a quiet place, but I love the bright colour buildings along the main road that realy sparks some life into this quiet place.

3Kops fontein

by mvtouring

This is an ancient sacred site situated on a farm in the Northern Cape. I was privilidged to visit the farm with a friend of mine, who is related to the gentleman that 3kops fontein belongs to. Carved in the glacier rock are many forms that reminds one of those found in Peru done by the Inka people and other ancient sites around the world.

Sani Pass

by Gili_S

Sani Pass is actually the road connecting from South Africa up the mountain to Lesotho. The height get as high as 2873 meter in Lesotho side. It is a popular place up the mountains and can be a good place for organising your tour around the area, it has accommodation, restaurant, pub etc.

Visit St Lucia, a word Heritage Site

by Gili_S

St Lucia, which is a word Heritage Site if famous for its Game Reserve Wetlands Park which is rather unique for specific rare animals and birds in Africa. It is offering wide range and diversity of activities and opportunities to see the nature, animal safari, birds watching, whale watching, hiking and many more options.

Tip Photo
Visit the Drakensberg mountains

by Gili_S

The Drakensberg mountains was one of my favourite places when I visited South Africa. Only few hours drive from Johannesburg and you get into the wilderness and mysterious land. Beautiful mountains, lakes and landscapes. Adventure for hiking and also just for relaxing.
