the Sudanese are football fanatics. The capital has the most famous teams : Mereikh, Hilal, Mourada, Tahrir, Khartoum Talata.
In the provinces are Itihad [Wad Medani], Gezirat el Fil, [Wad Medani], El Nil,[ Wad medani]; Hai el Arab [Port Sudan],el Amel [Atbara] and Katur[ Juba]. Each team has its own slogan.

However, there are football teams attached to most villages and as you drive along before sunset, you see boys playing on pitches with a couple of goalposts and maybe a few old car or lorry tyres marking boundaries or where spectators can watch. The dust rises from their feet [often bare] as the youngsters make a pass at the ball.

Equipment: goal posts and a ball are essential. Anything else is welcome!
