The new Omdurman-Dongola road makes travelling north much easier, but travellers should still take care.The road crosses the Bayuda desert where there are few settlements. There are fuel stations from time to time, also some cafes. And there is not a lot of traffic.
The dangers come from stray camels. If you hit and kill a camel, the fines are very high and compensation to the owner could be astronomical.
