Favorite thing: I am attracted to the red soil of White Nile and Kordofan. After the drab dusty grey/brown soil of the central area, the bright orange-red laterite soil makes a slash of colour of the landscape. It may not have the true red of the Kenyan soil, but to me is no less attractive.
Fondest memory: Driving through the country and seeing the different zones , each with its particular crop - sesame, peanuts, kerkade, and then the acacia trees, as well as the changing soil colour. When the mountains come into view I see the beauty in the rounded inselbergs. There is something so appealing about the desert.
