red soil
I am attracted to the red soil of White Nile and Kordofan. After the drab dusty grey/brown soil of the central area, the bright orange-red laterite soil makes a slash of colour of the landscape. It may not have the true red of the Kenyan soil, but to me is no less attractive. Driving through the country and seeing the different zones , each with its particular crop - sesame, peanuts, kerkade, and then the acacia trees, as well as the changing soil colour. When the mountains come into view I see the beauty in the rounded inselbergs. There is something so appealing about the desert.
