Women frequently make handicrafts at home to be sold at the market. They are often made from the mid-rib of palm fronds. The 'grass' is coloured using natural dyes, so tend to be black, ochre or purple .
The most common goods of this nature are the attractive round food covers [tabbaq] which vary from small to very large for covering the large round trays that are carried to weddings, funerals or other gatherings. Nowadays plastic is replacing the natural products in some places.

Woven straw mats are used for praying , lying on sitting on and are rolled up when not in use.
