Like most markets in Sudan, the markets are arranged according to the product, and shops are usally small or even just kiosks.What is special is the hustle and bustle of people, cars, carts and lorries, the colours of fruit, spices and goods in general, the smells of the spices...The noise of haggling, shopkeepers and customers arguing or chatting. There are so many forest products to buy : kerkadeh, gongolais, tamarind, aradeb [all used for making refreshing drinks]. Sun dried tomatoes, red pepper, dried okra and general herbs and spices.I used to buy gourds that had been cut to make a pot which made an attractive decoration, though itis actually for fermenting milk.Straw baskets in various shapes and sizes all make attractive gifts or ornaments, as well as being practical.Honey. Much less than in towns like Khartoum.Bargain and you will get it even cheaper.
