Hafez, Kamlin and others: stopping for a break

There are many restaurants along the road between Khartoum and Wad Medani but the most popular places to stop are at Maseed , Giad and Kamlin. There is a proper restaurant at Kamlin, but I have only stopped at Maseed and Giad where we had drinks, fresh fruit or bottles of Pepsi. These restaurants also sell tea, coffee and snacks, but I cannot comment on the food, as I have never eaten there,The smell of the meat being grilled certainly stirs the taste buds.

Just opposite the Gezira Club is a pizza place serving real Italian pizza with real mozzarella! You're probably cringing while reading this, but it has to be said that after a diet of fuul and kebabs for a few months, pizza makes a welcome change! Anyway, it is fairly expensive by local standards, at US$3 per pizza. If it is fuul you are craving, then head to the souq and wash it down with a guava juice. Along the riverfront, there are several cafes all serving hot drinks and soft drinks, as well as some sort of food (usually shawarmas, burgers or ice cream).
