take care during the rains
The fertile Gezira plain is clay. Therefore, when it rains, the whole area becomes waterlogged and cars can be stuck deeply embedded in the mud, very difficult to remove. As the Gezirah is criss crossed by canals which can overflow, great care must be taken when driving at this time of year [May -October]. When the water dries out, the terrain will be uneven and deeply rutted with tracks, making driving hazardous, and can cause vehicles to overturn.It is always safer to have a local with you when travelling off the main roads.
