There is little to see or do in Kosti...I spent most of the day just walking around. Start with the souq...now, it seemed a bit dead during the day, but at night parts of it could pass as almost alive, particularly the areas near the railway line. The major landmark in town is the central mosque, which has a tall minaret and a small Qur'anic school behind. I took a walk along the main road to the lft, and found myself in the railway quarter (sikka hadeed)...the same brick-built huts, but in a worse state of repair than those in Kassala. Further on is an industrial area full of workshops which was quite interesting to walk around...there were plenty of raucous tea-ladies hidden away round here too. Access to the Nile is tricky if there has been rainfall...we arrived during a monstrous storm, so all roads to the river were muddy and wet. There may be some nice walks by the Nile if you can get to them, but unfortunately it was not to be for me. Heading back into town and out the other side, there is a bizarre mosque and a fairly picturesque suburb...although not really anything to cause a major detour. I found Kosti to be pleasant enough, but I don't think I could have filled another day.
