Swazi coins
  • Tip Rating:
  • Two coins of 2 emalangeni each. One side shows the king and the other side, I think those are arums. Other than that I have nothing useful to say about these!

way back in the 60s and 70s,
    S. Africa to ElEm -Mocambique via Swaziland was the alternative route.

My first contact with a cool drink [pop] called Canada Dry was in Lourneco Marques, Laramjada and Ginger Ale were the two main flavours.
Canada Dry Laranjada, though synthetic and unique in flovour, was also bottled in Namaacha, a border town other side of Swaziland.

The water was drawn from a mineral Spring, pure in flavour.

Will the Scotch lover, not like it for a mixer of ice.

  • Tip Rating:
  • I don't know if it rally is 'off the beaten path, but one of the neat places we stopped at was 'Swazi Candles'
Also worth looking for is the Ngwenya Glass Factory. Lots of neat figurines all made from recycled glass.

A beautiful drive that is easy...
A beautiful drive that is easy to miss is a loop from Mbabane. one road goes out of town through Fontaine, and the other roadcomes back into town past the sewage lagoons. Maybe that doesn't sound so nice but the drive truely is. The balanceing roacks are as nice as anything I ever saw in Matopos (Zimbabwe), the traditional homesteads and the boulder strewn hillsides are spececial. You will need your own transportation, although if you were doing marathon training the loop could work as a long workout. I guess the whole loop would be about 25 km's.
