    Just across the border

by kenHuocj Written Sep 12, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

way back in the 60s and 70s,
    S. Africa to ElEm -Mocambique via Swaziland was the alternative route.

My first contact with a cool drink [pop] called Canada Dry was in Lourneco Marques, Laramjada and Ginger Ale were the two main flavours.
Canada Dry Laranjada, though synthetic and unique in flovour, was also bottled in Namaacha, a border town other side of Swaziland.

The water was drawn from a mineral Spring, pure in flavour.

Will the Scotch lover, not like it for a mixer of ice.

I don't know if it rally is 'off the beaten path, but one of the neat places we stopped at was 'Swazi Candles'
Also worth looking for is the Ngwenya Glass Factory. Lots of neat figurines all made from recycled glass.

by africaking Updated Apr 4, 2011

Pretty much everywhere is off the beaten path here, mountains, valley's and lakes, they have it all and the great thing is they havn't been exploited as such.

See local villages, trading stalls or even go shopping in the Capital

Staying at the lodge in the game park that everyone talks about is well worth it. I could have stayed there for days. One thing I did but I wouldn't really recommend, is the horse ride. You can hire bikes or walk the area and see the same stuff.

by Mandlenkhosi Written Aug 26, 2002

A beautiful drive that is easy to miss is a loop from Mbabane. one road goes out of town through Fontaine, and the other roadcomes back into town past the sewage lagoons. Maybe that doesn't sound so nice but the drive truely is. The balanceing roacks are as nice as anything I ever saw in Matopos (Zimbabwe), the traditional homesteads and the boulder strewn hillsides are spececial. You will need your own transportation, although if you were doing marathon training the loop could work as a long workout. I guess the whole loop would be about 25 km's.

While driving around in Swaziland it is actually very interesting to see the rural areas with the people living in the old traditional houses.

The road between the border of Mocambique to Manzini takes you through typical bushland with cottages and deserted villages.
