Arusha Region Warnings Or Dangers

Arusha people selling things

by punkpin

I found the people in Arusha to be quite pushy with their sales. If you are not interested, be very firm and almost rude. If you don't, more and more people will approach you, to the point that if you are in the car, their bodies will be halfway in...even as you are trying to drive away.

Danger in the dark

by nomoredoubts

Arusha is very popular for tourists because of the Safari-Companies. The UN-Headquarter is another reason, why it is a magnet for Tanzanias crime life. While it´s supposed to be fine at daytime, everyone told us not to get out at night. We also met japanese tourists, who were robbed near a main street.

Don't Use the public phone

by untpsci

I would suggest that the travelers invest in a gsm or tri-band phone. Often times you will return from your excursion late in the evening and if you need to call you family at home you will have to use one of a few public phones in the dark. This is not a good idea! You can not use your credit card or cash at the public phones and the tarrifs are very high. You will be much better off to take a phone with you for emergencies. Once there your people back home can send you SMS messages from www.imezz.com. Having a phone will be very useful, as you can store the number of your tour agents in the event of an emergency and you need assistance. Also the rates from the hotels to call the US are about $3.00 per minute which is more than the cell phone rate with both Vodacom or Celtel. You can buy the sim cards once you get there and the starter kit with calling minutes varies from $5.00 to...
