A great little restaurant on the beach, where you can dine barefoot. Friendly staff and great food, and ultracomfortable wooden chairs with huge pillows. Service is slow, so while you wait have one of their memorable milkshakes.
Favorite Dish: I found curries particularly delicious, especially those with coconut milk. However this very casual restaurant (more or less a hut) also does some african food with an italian twist, like their pasta with fresh tuna or their pizzas... which are highly recommended, as the restaurant has a tiny but real and traditional pizza oven. And if you think that one should only eat local food, think twice about it... their pizza is much better than most pizzas you find in Italy. For desserts, their home-made yoghurts with fruits are to die for

The Fat Fish restaurant is a locally-owned simple restaurant built in stilts in Nugwi. The place is nice, with a great terrace overlooking the sea and friendly (and somewhat slow) staff.
Favorite Dish: The mixed grill proved to be delicious (rock lobster included) - as well as some other local dishes. Zanzibari-style curries are to die for, especially the chucku-chuku - spicy but not hot. Food is often served with chips and rice - do ask to leave out the chips part, they are indifferent and quite greasy. It's also possible to oder pasta dishes - but be aware that the tomato sauce is in fact ketchup. No way.
