Dodoma is still a small town, however, during working hours several places are congested with people moving from one place to another. Thieves (pickpockets) take advantage of those location to snatch or take anything from strangers. These places are near the markets, bus stands or even entrace to shops.

If walking ensure you do not show buldging pockets and if carrying a small bag hold it tightly. Walk fast, or show your strength. If someone pushes you, stop, do not think nothing has happened and if posible shout, "mwizi". This is because they (thiefs) walk in pairs, one will push you and the other one will be taking whatever he can get. If scared go to nearby shop. Most of those thieves are very weak because of alchols so you can actual scare them off by stamping your feet.

Do not walk at night, may be if you are in a group and in well lit areas (very few in this town).
