My first sighting of Kilimanjaro, on this trip, was when we were overflying the region, on a flight from Zanzibar to Nairobi.
We were flying Precision Air. I had kept a look out of my prized window seat, for Kilimanjaro. It was a cloudy day, but suddenly, i saw the big mountain- its snow capped peak jutting out thru the low lying clouds and dominating the landscape. A truly impressive sight.

The big mountain has its own airport... KIA, is Africa's first fully privatized international airport.
We flew in on a Presicion air flight from Nairobi. Takes less than an hour and flies over some awesome scenery- including the big mountain itself... which emerges right thru the clouds and dominates everything else.
Our flight back to Nairobi (Precision air) was scheduled for a late morning departure. Instead, we were told it will leave around 8pm. I suspect that was because there were not too many passengers on this flight, and they just decided to cancel this flight and combine it with the next one in the evening. Pretty annoying, but we had to live with it.
While waiting at the departure area, i noticed that there is an internet cafe- not exactly cheap if i remember, a couple of decent souvenir shops, and a waiting lounge upstairs. I wish we could have used it.
Eventually though, we were shifted to the Kia lodge...
Many international carriers fly directly to KIA. Klm and Kenya airways are the ones i know.
