I found no real tourist traps in pemba
The closest thing I came to a "trap" was a daladala (covered pick-up type taxi) ride I took as the evening grew and I was too knackered to carry on cycling. The driver was on his way home and, perhaps understandably when faced with a relatively wealthy tourist, he tried to charge me more for the trip than was feasible. "Traps" are mostly found in highly touristed places which Pemba is not. Don't worry. Pembans are not going to rip you off. People may charge more than for locals but perhaps they should charge a little bit more. Just be sensible and don't expect that everyone is out to get you into a trap. Westerners often feel this - and I have too - but you have to sometimes expect that desparately poor people will see you as an opportunity to make money. Don't let people take the ***, of course, but be "cautious whilst not losing your humour" is probably the best advice i could give.
