A small and basic airport, which has daily flights connecting you to Unguja.
The airlines that fly to Pemba are Zanair and Coastal, apart from some chartered flights.
The airport is named after Abedi Amani Karume, the first African President of the Peoples’ Republic of Zanzibar, who went on to become the Vice President of Tanzania after Tanganyika and Zanzibar were united in 1964.

Cheap overnight boat from Stone Town, Zanzibar Island. Book in advance, but beware of the touts who congregate around the port area - You don't need their help to get a ticket, just go to the ticket office for the overnight passenger and cargo boat (big white South African boat. Sorry, i don't remember its name). Take your passport with you when booking. There may be some faster boats in the daytime, but think of the money you save in accommodation for a night! Not to mention time. It's quite a trip really. I remember looking out of a window on waking and seeing a Dhow sailing boat go past, lit by a single lightbulb. There is about an hour or two of very rough sea which made a child who was sleeping on the floor near me roll from side to side!
