Ali Baba and neighbouring bars & restaurants: Senegambia, dancing in the street

by sachara

In the Senegambia area there was almost every evening dancing and drumming in the street. It was a very enthusiastic group of youngsters, who did this performance in front of the terraces of the restaurants like Ali Baba and Paradisio la Parisienne, while we had our dinner or just a drink.

Dance display: Go local

by grets

If you get the chance to attend a display of local dancing, I would recommend that you do. We saw both a display laid on for the tourists in one of the beach hotels, with fancy costumes and smooth choreography; as well as an impromptu dance by a few of the local villagers up country. The latter was much more genuine and enthusiastic.

Night life

by Mum+2kids

Hi, we went to 2 different places (nightclubs) one was arranged through our tour rep, the other we went with a guide in a local taxi....very daunting but interesting to say the least, our guide was lovely we paid for him for the night, drinks etc...which only came to rougly £5.00, and we had a good time at the local nightclub, cant remember what it was called, but it was outside with no roof, so was very open and cool.....Julbrew is the main lager over there in bottles, quite nice and strong :) anything goes that i remember...!!! :)

ALI BABA: KOLOLI AREA

by johanl

Food is ok in the kololi area. There are quite some restaurants, but all of them are rather expensive, compared to the price, the locals pay for their food. So best is, to get out of the crowded areas and try to find a small restaurant more inland. You can ask assistance from an officlal tourist guide.

Did not visit nightclubs or discs. Went to some great open air dances. These were advertised on telegraph poles around the markets.Good music, friendly people, no hassles. Modest dress, basically the western version of the local dress.

Visit the restaurante and nightclub SIR WILLIAM for just taking a drink and dancing it´s a hot nice place where you meet people from the whole world. If you want to look on or for girls you just have to sit down on the small bar/restarant and disco The Weels in the dark African night , have a coce or beer just relaxeing and enjoy the nightlife passing through and if you want to dance just go inside to the disco where you meet new friends of both sexes. And dont miss the very popular Discotec Spy Bar where you can meet all kinds of new friends of both sexes. The Gambian nightlife is rather safe and if you behave yourself and being gentel to the Gambians you get a lot of friends many for life , but if you are drunk and unpleasantthere is like in all countrys you can get in troubble with the lokal population.Trawell always thinking 'treat people as you want to be treaten' then it´s 'GAMBIA NO...

Eddy's Nightclub: Dance the night away!

by TracyG

Suprisingly for such a tiny country there are plenty of places to go. But this one plays great music (mainly reggae) and has a very lively crowd. Anything goes.
