McMahon's: Fabulous service

by SarahJohnson

A wonderful irish restaurant on the Senegambia strip. Offering some traditional Irish recipes that have a great home-cooked feel, combined with some traditional local fish recipes.Top quality service on every visit.... would highly recommend to all visitors to the Gambia.

Lamin Lodge

by traveldave

Lamin Lodge is a restaurant built on stilts among the mangroves overlooking the Gambia River. (Lamin means "first-born son" in the local Mandinka language). To reach the restaurant, patrons must cross a causeway through the mangrove swamp, where they may see water birds and small fish in the water. The multi-level restaurant is constructed entirely of split logs, and it seems as if there are few, if any, flat surfaces in the whole structure. The building does not seem very sturdy, and it creaks in high winds. Patrons can even see the water underneath the building through cracks in the flooring. My group had lunch in the third-floor watch tower, which provided great views over the mangroves and river. We were even able to birdwatch while enjoying our lunch, seeing herons, egrets, kites, vultures, terns, and kingfishers. The Lamin Lodge features fresh seafood caught from the nearby river,...

Paradisso and homecooking: Eat with the people

by David&Pauline

Kololi has a government-controlled restaurant on the road to the Monkey Park, with a good selection of local dishes. Paradisso Bar & Restaurant in Kololi is a very friendly, budget priced eatery with a large choice of dishes. The river camp we stayed at on our visit to Janjanbureh did us an excellent couple of meals, though be sure to wash your hands as cutlery is not always provided. We'd really recommend you buying some fresh local produce and sharing it with the locals, the Gambians are all good cooks. There could be a bit of a problem if you have a peanut allergy, domodah is the national dish! Benachin has to be one of the best dishes, that's the spiced meat or fish and rice with tomato puree and vegetables. Ask for it as spicey as the locals eat it.

Marie's Pub: Best pub in Serrakunda

by David&Pauline

The best bar in Serrakunda, for our money, run by the lovely Marie herself. Warm and welcoming, a good range of cold beers, including the “Crocodile” Julbrew Export. Cana, distilled palm wine and Casha Cana, from cashew is sold by the litre. There’s a lady cooking deep fried savoury and sweet snacks right on the doorstep, which you can take inside and enjoy. She also serves up really massive meat rolls, for an impossibly low price!

Aisia Marie Cinema Restaurant: Fast food, Gambian style

by David&Pauline

This place is a gem, opposite the Suma Hotel and used to supply Lana’s Bar, Serrakunda’s top tourist pub, with its food. It’s situated in the cinema’s forecourt, offering an inexpensive dish of the day during lunch hours. You can bring your own beer from the bottle shop just around the corner. Sayerr Jobe Avenue has many fine local restaurants at local prices This cafe does a delicious takeaway fish and pasta supper, wrapped in foil. You can take it to your favourite pub or into the cinema!

Gunjur Beach Lodge: Gunjur Beach Lodge, Kombo South, The Gambia

by johndavid1988

The Gunjur Beach Lodge is not only a great place to stay but they also have fantastic food. They specialize in seafood but for a steak or a pasta it is also a good restaurant.Nice big tree trunk tables, candles, dimed lights...a perfect place for a romantic diner. We had fresh lobster and payed 500 Dalasi a head. Thats not even 15 Euro or 10 pounds! Lobster and Tiger Prawns.....just jummy!Spaghetti Bolognaise....a real classic but what can we say. Very tastefulSmoked fish salad. They use freshly smoked fish from the nearby fishing village. Breakfast. Simple but good.

Too many to mention: Indian, Chinese, Gambian its all there for you

by lyncol

You can eat whatever food you like here, most hotels are bed & breakfast so rather than stay in the hotel to eat get a taxi and go to Kotu Beach and sample some of the many and varied foods thats on offer.Go to the Lebenese restaurant its fab you get so much to eat and at very low prices too. So much choice we cant choose a favourite place they were all as good as each other.

No Name: Tendaba "Restaurant"

by afterglow

The restaurant's only table was situated on a small round peninsula, made by the owner of the place. He dishes up whatever he caught that day and serves it with a smile. Check out details such as the thermos/candle and the lack of drinks: fantastically cool and simple. Make a booking before you walk in: the guy has to catch your food :-)

Babula´s café: Ker Serigne, local food

by sachara

In Ker Serigne, the place where we stayed for a few days, were a few local restaurants. Our favourite was Babula's cafe, where they served very cheap and delicious local dishes for a few euros. Most of the evenings there was no electricity at Babula's, so we had dinner with candlelight. At our third visit there was suddenly electric light. So I could see the place and found out it was also indoors quite a lovely café. It seemed even to be a bed and breakfast address. I took all the three times the local dish with chicken. I forgot the local name of it. At our third and last visit they offered us a lot of extra chicken, rice and pommes frites for free.
