Monky Park in Bijilo

by jigeen

just a stroll from Senegambia Stri, this little park will give you an impression how the land was like before being cultivated. On Top you have nice and greedy monkies, though many of them invaded to the nearby hotels.

Go to the crocodile pool

by gonetotheuk

There is no such thing as Health and Safety in Gambia - go to the crocodile pool and jiggle a crocs belly . . . go on, where else will you get the chance? You have you got to loose (except maybe a hand or foot)?Just go for it. It's definitely worth going, for the phto opportunity alone.

Fort Bullen

by traveldave

Fort Bullen was constructed by the British between 1820 and 1830 to protect the mouth of the Gambia River, and to control the slave trade that was the basis of the economy at that time. The fort was abandoned in the 1870s. Other than a short reactivation during the Second World War, Fort Bullen remained unused until 1996, when it was restored for the Roots Homecoming Festival.Nowadays, it is possible to explore Fort Bullen, but there is not much to see. Visitors are basically restricted to walking along the battlements. And even those interested in architecture will find Fort Bullen uninspiring. Architecturally it is just a rectangular building with round bastions at each corner.

Surfing

by alisonclaire

If you just want a cheap day out just head to the beach,, if you can get yourself some surf boards,, my children loved it because the waves are very rough!!We ventured down to the beach at gunjur,, its out of the way from all the touristy bits and not many people about,, so not many there to hassle you.

Denton bridge

by alisonclaire

If you like adventure,, fast rides, water or even just to relax, a place that has all this is Denton bridge,, for a action packed day, (but does cost a bit) then this is your place, we took out two children here both aged 12 and they loved it,, activities range from jet sking, gentle paddle on a canoe, there is a ride called the double trouble, its like a giant donut for 2,, single donuts a banana one,, endless,,,,,to add to this they have a huge swimming pool if you dont fancy ocean, you can even hire a boat and do a spot of fishing,, we enjoyed watching the locals sailing past on their boats,, or even rowing past,, this has to be a fun day out for all, oh nearly forgot they have a great food menue also, very good prices too.

Banjul market

by susu77

More touristic than Serrekunda market. Sellers are also more anxious than in Serrekunda. You can easily get lost in this place. Alleys are narrow and partly in shadows. Nice fabrics and woodworks. I didnt do any shopping - just enjoyed watching the people.

Laze on the Beach!

by joolssss

Well , I think we all know how to do this! I have it down to a fine art!Kotu beach is a brilliant place to really unwind. As soon as you hit the beach, someone will come and make up the beach beds for you. Within a minute or two the local waiter will come and ask you if you want drinks or food! There is almost always music playing in the background, and more often than not its reggae.Theres a beach library, juice bars, lifeguards ( who are not paid, so give them a good tip!)the lifeguards will lend you a bodyboard too if you would like one. There is horse riding on the beach, and of course the beautiful fruit ladies who will bring you a plate of delicious local fruit for a small price. There are also the usual beach sellers, selling sunglasses etc..these are generally "shooed" away by the guards, but I like these guys, at least they have something to offer and are trying to make a...

Lamin Lodge

I havent really figured out what this place is all about. Maybe its only a restaurant next to the dock. But it sure is a restaurant one of a kind. As one thing the floor of the place really makes you think how meny heavy tourists has gone through it..Restaurant is rounded by the river and boats, magrove forest, mud and crabs, old wooden bridges, baobab trees..Just go to see for yourself. We didnt eat but we rented a boat there.
