Rent a bike, for 1 day.You can go where you want.If you want to go by taxi, don't take the taxi in front of your hotel, but take the ones on the street. They are cheaper. Before driving, make a price for the day and he stay the whole day with you.Give him also something to eat and drink, and he is your best friend.
When traveling around the country make sure to assure you of the services of an OFFICIAL tourist guide. These people are trained by the government. They will show you around and explain about the country. Afterwards you can tip them. Make sure to get one of these guys in order to have a safe trip.
The best way is to take a plane !The best way to visit the Gambia is to take a 'taxi' or something like that !You can also book excursions outside the hotel but be sure that they are full assured.We did it almost our whole holiday and we enjoyed a lot!We had never such a great and pleasant like here.
From Scandinavia you can go by air charter , Ving or Spies Trawell agencys (SCANDINAVIAN LEISURE GROUPE).There is also regulary flights by SABENA dayly except Fridays from Bruxelles with a lot of connections from different airportsover the whole world. Buses,Tourist taxies, boat , you can even rent a car but watch up for the condition on it and issurances paper ok.For just lokal transportaition you can rent a mountainbike.The traffic is a little 'GAMBIA NO PROBLEM' but works betterthen in many westeuropean countries , most of the drivers act very polite to each other.And my friends it´s rather nice to take a walk around in the neighbourhood.
I am not sure about flight onlys - but the package cost me £345 for one weeks accommodation including the flight. Flights from Gatwick are usually at 11.30am on a Friday with JMC and Monarch By registered Tourist Taxis which are very cheap or if on a package book onto some of the tour operators trips as it is not safe to just hail a cab, you need to take a guide with you as well which will cost you around 20 Dalasis
Now this is the way to travel!In all seriousness, getting around Gambia can be difficult. There are very bad roads and almost no public transport to Georgetown and Basse Santa Su.
When you leave Banjul for Senegal you’ll have to take a ferry, buy your ticket in advance but buy it at a locket and not on the streets. Be careful for the hustlers.
Use registered taxis for a cheap and useful way of seeing the country - agree a price in advance of your trip

To cross the river Gambia, prefer the ferry in stead of a small boat. Watch out for your pocket!
