Restaurant Ellafi serves good local dishes. There is plenty to eat. For example we had a salad and a couscous and could hardly eat everything ! The owner is very friendly and speaks a perfect French. The meal costs only 5 euros/person. They serve beer.
Favorite Dish: The couscous is very good.

After we left Tozeur our plan was to head north to Kairouan and Sousse for a few days. We broke the journey a couple of times, first at Metlaoui, a drab, dusty town in the phosphate rich Jerid area....

From Metlaoui, you can (no, you must!) take the '"Lézard rouge" (Red Lizzard). It is the former Bey of Tunisia special luxury train, built in 1900-1920. It has been brought to Metlaoui a few years ago...

The terminal of our jeep desert tour was Metlaoui, a small settlement in West Tunesia. Ready for tourists, a lot of local people are "just around" :-)
