Climbing towards the main street

As we were walking up to the main square of the town we were approached by lots of shop keepers who were trying to sell their products to the large crowds in the street. We were quite used to this type of behaviour and it was easy enough to brush off. However, we saw a number of tourists stop at shops to look at things and when they tried to leave the shopkeepers would switch on the hard-sell and in some cases they turned quite aggressive. Also, some of the shopkeepers would approach people on the street, put a toy camel or straw hat in their hand and keep hassling the shoppers until they handed over their money. It may have been only a small minority of shopkeepers using these tactics but it does little for Sidi Bou Said. I would advise you to skip shopping in Sidi Bou Said altogether.

being there for the shopping thing, and as u can read and know about it in any travelling site, the bargain is the real deal here. if u like that kind of buying this isn't really a danger tip. just a small warning of how u should deal with it. first don't feel very interested in any item what so ever if u don't wanna buy. if u do, ask for the price, offer 10% of it and in the end yu'll buy it for 20%/25% of the price they given u. believe me. i've donne that a lot, and i've had a great time. in the end i felt that i've donne some real bargaining, or maibe not. who cares?
