walking in the desert
by call_me_rhia
The desert is nothing like one would imagine - how can I explain? You have to walk through it, even if only for a couple of hours. The sand's much finer than I could have guessed, it got through everything and stayed there. After washing my socks 3 times, each time I took them off I still found sand on my feet. Then there is silence, peace. I walked for several hours and felt regenerated and pure. There's also more life than expected: lone bushes, the odd nomadic family, and even a few foxes. No sign of the infamous snakes and scorpions.
waterbottle, compass for longer walks (and a map), possibly hiking-boots to protect yourself from the occasional snake ot scorpion. And please do not wear contact lenses - sand in your eyes is a real killer
