Travelling with pets into Uganda

by ajayzener

I travelled with a pet from Benin to Uganda. The rules and regulations are not very clear and hence I thought that it would be a nce idea to post it here.Firstly if you are travelling with a pet or bringing the pet into the country. He should be medicaly termed fit by a doctor upon entering the country or he should have already completed this formality from the country that he is coming from. Then all the documents along with a request to import the pet should be sent to Animal Husbandary Department (a Clearing Agent will do this for you, or you can get it done yourself if you are in the country). This department is in Entebbe. The department will issue you a letter. On the day of arrival, the C&F agent should be present at the airport to receive the dog. He should have the letter from the animal husbandary department and the relevant vaccination details and the letter from the doctor. It...

Moving with cargo

by ajayzener

We shifted from Uganda to India in the year 2006. After having spent 2 years in Uganda, we knew that the rail and road transport is not trustworthy, hence we hired the service of Kuhene Nagal. We wanted our cargo to be sent by air. The day we left the country, I met the marketing personnel who had already collected our cargo and promised me that the cargo should reach cochin within 4 days. After 10 days of reaching my destination, I still had no clue of my cargo. When I finally got in touch with KN I realised the cargo was still lying in the Nairobi Airport. It took another week before we got our cargo. Overall a frustrating experience.

Visas

by thelittlevoice

Even as a Thai citizen who normally needs a visa in advance, I could get it on arrival. I paid $20 for a transit visa as I was going to Rwanda next. They wrote down Rwanda on my visa too so make sure you've made up your mind of where to go. The queue wasn't long and the room to get it done is on the left side.

Aids

by NEILHALLIDYA

This might sound very obvious but Aids is a massive problem in Africa and, in particular, Uganda. The scale of the issue is frightening.Lots of people are carrying out useful and positive work to reduce the problem (you`d need to walk around with your eyes wide shut to miss the clinics/poster campaigns and positive PR).

Make Friends.....

by PA68

Since I wasn't able to take part in some activities due to my ankle injury there were occasions where I would be sitting at the bottom of th ehill when everyone else climbed to the top. This wasn't always such a bad thing as I'd always attract attention and end up making a few new friends.

Border Crossing - Uganda to Sudan

by TexasLinda

We drove from Entebbe, Uganda, to Maridi, New Sudan, over a two-day period, stopping in Kaya, New Sudan, to spend the night. Leaving Uganda, we had to pass through their border check point, have our passports inspected, be interviewed, and information from our passports, and purpose of our visit recorded in their books. The officials in Uganda do not allow you to take pictures there. If caught, your option is to hand over the camera or film, or go to jail. Fortunately, that did not happen to anyone in our group, but it was "discussed". Very friendly folks at Sophie's Hotel, where we stayed overnight in Entebbe.

Bird Life

by grets

One of my favourite aspects of Uganda was its rich and varied bird life. Birds are very easy to spot and are found along the side of the road as well as in nature parks. We identified somewhere in the region of 70 different birds on our trip, many more can be seen if you take the time and efford and have a good bird guide with you.

by aussiebob

before exchanging currency into the local ugandan shillings make sure you shop around for the best rates.my experience at the airport proved that the rates can vary greatly......example at airport $1us was 1600 ugandan sh.at bank in kampala rate was $1us was 2000 ugandan shillings.this was in july 2003.so dont be in a rush.....check out your options.

BAGGAGES

by jordijoan

The most usual thing when you are reaching Kampala by air , is not a rare thing that your baggages arrive next day, specially if it's not a direct flight from an european country and has a stop in Nairobi. So, just fill in the formularies at the arrival desk, next day take a taxi to the airport , get the baggages and back in Kampala with the taxi go to Kenya Airlines with the taxi bill and you will get the cost of it refunded instantaniously.

CHANGING MONEY

by jordijoan

The best exchange rates are in Kampala, where there is a big quantity of banks and will be able to sell you not only Uganda's currency but also change the remaining shillings into Kenyan, Tanzanian or other african currencies if you have to continue your trip to other close countries.Think that prices in Uganda are quite low ( meal 3$, stay in a national park's banda around 5-10$) and that in the more touristic places like lodges you have to pay in dollars, so is not necessary to change too much money. We were told that the rates for changing money were specially bad in Fort Portal area as well as in the airport.
