Try the streetfood
Street food is really good. Don't worry about hygiene, i did when i first arrived in the country, but I took to eating loads and loads of it, and never had any problems (although I can't vouch for the meat, I'm vegetarian). They usually serve it in something a little like plastic sandwich-bags, which are called bavera (- plural; singular - cavera). You can get chapatti (200/=), chapatti & fried egg rolled together (500/=), tea (if there's no milk 100/=), cassava chips (you can hand the lady any small sized coin(s) 50/= to 300/=, and she'll give you portions accordingly), corn on the cob - either BBQed or boiled. BBQed matooke, and BBQed meat (goat, chicken). All of the above is only available in the evening and night, one thing you can get during the day sometimes is pineapple (100/= per slice). This can be found in the centre of Mbale town, as well as in towns and trading centres all...
