Most restaurants in town!: Try the local food

by LouiseNakumiza

If you've just arrived in the country you may be a little hesitant about trying the local food. But I came to love it, and ate nothing else. Going to local restaurants also gives you a chance to chat to Ugandans. And it's very cheap. There are many local restaurants in the centre of Mbale (Manafwa Road, Naboa Road, Republic Street, Kumi Road). They are all very similar, the menu is the same. Our favourite was the large Mukwano's on Manafwa Road, it has BBC/CNN news on TV and I was told they used boiled water for making passionfruit juice - many local restaurants do not boil the water, so you may want to be careful.A meal costs around 1000-2000/= Snacks from 200/= Matooke and beans.Snacks:milk tea1/2 cakes or mandazi or star cakeschappatpassionfruit juice in Mukwanos (not in some others)Boiled or fried eggs with bread
