Mbale has many many bicycle 'taxis', which are called "boda-bodas" or "boda". They are more common in Mbale than in most other Ugandan towns. You will see large groups of them waiting for custom on street corners all round town.

They have brightly-coloured cushions on the back which the passenger sits on.

They can take you to any well-known place if you do not know where it is, or simply use them if you do not feel like walking, or are in a hurry, or for the fun of it.

When using boda-bodas I found they often didnt know the names of roads - rather they know the places. Prices vary from around 200/= to 1000/= or more, depending on the distance and load, some will try to hugely overcharge tourists, others are really honest about the price. You have to haggle with them. Sometimes this is done before the journey, and sometimes afterwards.
