Ben's Organic Restaurant: Organic food in Mbarara, Uganda
Unique to Mbarara is the notion of organic food. I came across Ben's Organic Restaurant, on a simple search for fresh juice. It's 10 seconds walk from the zebra crossing on the High Street (Mbarara's main street). Not only did I find a selection of freshly-made juices but the tastiest & cleanest Ugandan food in Mbarara. All the produce is from local organic farms.The owner, Ben, is a qualified Naturopath & sells all sorts of Ugandan herbal mixes for colds, flu, digestion etc from his shelves inside the restaurant. My favourite dish was the fish plate - a soup with half a fish boiled in herbs - succulent! Each meal is accompanied with a salad & a mix of rice, Irish potatoes, cassava, pumpkin, so don't bother ordering side dishes.
