Have a boogie to the prez

by muguruki

In November 2010 Uganda was gripped with election fever for the upcoming presidential elections. Nightclubs up and down the land were bouncing to the sound of the incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's rather impressive rap record. Sadly his poiltics aren't as good as his rapping. Check out one of a few vids for the tuneM7rap

Ndere Cultural Centre: Traditional music performed by Acholi people

by croisbeauty

First to be mentioned, this guys are excellent musicians, they keep rhytm all the time and make no mistakes. It was amazing experience, listening such a fine music which comes out of nothing. All instruments are hand made, from wood and leather, and yet they perform superior tunes. The show was conducted by Okello and the guy is great. It was funny to know by him that Acholi people use names which for females starts always by "a" and for males by "o".Finaly the dancing group. The whole show lasted more than two hours and they never stopped dancing. The coreography was excellent, same as dancing they performed.......

Clubs, pubs and discoteques: Infos in general

by croisbeauty

Ugandans are very outgoing people, especially on weekends. Do not, however, expect much fun on sundays because most of locals stays at home in that day healing their wounds after tempestuous sunday. Actually, it's local habbit to get drunk on sunday evenings, my first neighbor invited me to join him and his companions and get "dead drunk" as he mentioned.I used to go in the couple of clubs, enjoying in good music and watching locals who dance extremely good. My choice were clubs with african music only because it's full of rhytm and just amazing.

Gluepot: Best boozer in Fort Portal

by muguruki

This is the best watering hole in Fort Portal. It’s been around for years apparently under several owners. Quite often you'll be lucky to get in the door if there is a big English Premiership Footie match on the box. Wednesday afternoon sessions seem to be a bit of an institution in the Gluepot for many of the white population in the area, for years people have come for miles to get hammered here.

Alligators: Karoke Bar

by ajayzener

Alligators is a karoke bar. Saturday nights are karoke nights, you will find the place mostly crowded but it is a nice hang-out to spent your evening. There are 4 bowling alleys where you can try your bowling skills. The music is good and singers surprisingly good most of the times. You will mostly find the same crowd frequenting the place. It is open till 2 am and it definitely is one place to be in on a saturday night in town.

Garden City Mall: Movies

by ajayzener

Garden City has two theatres where they run English and Hindi (Sometimes) movies. The theatres are small but neat and cosy. The normal ticket charges are 10,000 Shillings/ person and for 20,000 Shillings you can have the executive seats. Most of the latest hollywood movies are screened here and sometimes you also find hindi movies.

Kampala Casino: Gambling Den

by ajayzener

Kampala Casino is the largest Casino in the country. The casino has poker, roulet tables, slot machines and black jack. The casino has a small restaurant and during weekends you will find the place jam packed till 4 am. You get snack and drinks in the restaurant and food and drink is on the house if you are playing.

Basement: Good Interiors

by ajayzener

Basement is at the back side of Hotel Equitoria. A relatively new nightcub, it is one of the best in terms of the look and ambience. The dancefloor is decent. The entry fee is high, it was 10,000 shillings when it started. Normally frequented by the Ugandans and indians. It is a nice place to sit anc chill out with your friends. The DJ and music very good. Thney also play Indian and Labanese music.

Rouge: Dance Away

by ajayzener

Rouge is situated just opposite the Kampala railway station. This is on the first floor and a small place. The ambience and music is good. This nightclub is mostly visited by the expatriates staying in the country. On weekends you will find a lot of Europeans and Indians in this place.

Rock Garden: Rock the Night

by ajayzener

Rock Gardens is a open pub in the heart of the city, it is run by the speke hotel. This night club is ccrowded during the weekends. It has a large dance floor and since it is open, there is enough place to sit and have a nice time if you are not interested in dancing. During the weekdays there is not too much of crowd. But the music and the ambeince is both good. This place is mostly visited by Ugandans and Indians.
