The principal food stuff of this area is Matoke (Plaintains). The best way to describe this to the western palate is savory banana this is boiled and served like potatoes.

This can be served in a stew with smoked goat, groundnuts and local spices. This is the principal foodstuff eaten by your guide and porters.

Its pleasant and definately worth trying at least once.

  • The local mountain people, who will be your porters and guide, generally do speak English.

Its worth understanding that there use of Thank You is slightly different to ours. They do use it but are much more economical than westerners tend to be.

For example, if you offer a gift. They may accept with a slight bow of the head. But they may not say thank you as you offered them the gift.
