Rafting in the Nile

by ericsas

Amazing experience... it is not possible to describe it with words.. you have to experience it !!!I booked it in an adventure trips company called "Adrift". It has their offices close to the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, but you can book as well going directly to the departing point, that is located in Jinja. There are two choices. Full day or half day. But I advice you to book for the full day. That is till 5pm.Lunch is included. You'll have lunch in an small "island" in the middle of the Nile. After lunch you have the opportunity of swimming in the Nile, in an area where there are not rapids. The experience of swimming in the Nile is unforgettable. The trip finishes at 5pm, after almost 30 km along the Nile, and enjoying several 5 level rapids, the top level allowed in rafting. The boats are for 8 persons, so this is a very good choice for doing teamwork if you're there for business, as it...

The Equator

by ericsas

Here you can make a classic picture.. one leg in the north side and the another leg in the south side of the world. You can check as well that the water moves in different senses in the north and in the south.. and that in the middle of the earth it doesn't move at all.

Do charity work.....

by PA68

There is a charity based in Jinja called SoftPower. They do very good work refurbishing schools in the area. They install water tanks, concerete floors, new roofs, toilet blocks etc etc. All good stuff We spent one day helping out there and it was great fun. Here's a mural I had to draw on a classroom wall after we'd painted the classroom. I have no artistic talent whatsoever. There are probably some Ugandan kids having a great laugh at it as you read this.

Rafting at the Source of the Nile - Jinja

by NEILHALLIDYA

If you are "adrenaline minded" a must visit is Jinja and a white water rafting trip along the source of the Nile. This is an incredible experience. I went with Nile River Explorers. This was a great day (overnight stay, rafting and meals for $90). But other companies exist. The rapids are huge, but fairly safe. The guides are excellent and the scenery along the Nile (Sea Eagles, snakes, and rural fishing scenes) is great.

Try the local food....

by PA68

Since we were cookign for ourselves most of the time we didn't get to eat the local food as much as I would have liked. When we tried it though, we loved it.Here's a fine spread of typical Ugandan food including matoke.

Visit the Gorillas

by PA68

It's no secret that Uganda is home to some of the worlds last remaining mountain gorillas. That was our main reason for being there. No platser cats was going to stop me getting up into those mountains so I cut it off myself the night before the trek and strapped up my ankle good and proper. By sheer force of will I made it up there on crutches. Shame the gorillas decided to spend the whole of our alloted hour runnign aways from us into progressively thicker bamboo. This was probably the best shot I got all day.

Quad Biking

by PA68

Next door to the Nile River Explorers campsite in Jinja there is a company who do tours on quadbikes. We opted for the sunset tour. They took as around some local villages and we go dinner included. The typical Ugandan fare was fantastic. It was also a great opportunity to meet some of the locals.Obviously, this was ideal for me since mobility wasn't great at this point :-) And no laughing at the stupid outfit ok!

Jinja - Where the Nile Begins

by ramansankar

You need to visit Jinja. This is the town where the Nile river begins. And probably one of the rare marvels on earth where the river travels northwards. On one side is Lake Victoria and less than 50 metres from this spot is the River Nile flowing with full force. An amazing sight.Very close to this place is the Bujagali falls where the nile river flows in from 4 or 5 separate streams to merge into one mammoth natural sight. A lot of people camp here all year round. And for visitors and tourists there are also a few resorts around the place for camping, bungee jumping, white water rafting and so on.If you are in Uganda you will also love to visit the equator that passes through this country. Though i could not get to visit this place, it remained a fantasy nevertheless.
