Lusenga Plains Game Park

by Bwana_Brown

Visit the game parks - especially the Luangwa Valley. Unfortunately, I did not have the means to visit this fantastic park at the time that I was in Zambia, but I did manage a few others. One was the off-the-track Lusenga Plains park in the north near Lake Mweru. This was not open to the general public but, because of our 'volunteer' contacts, we were able to get an escorted tour in the park. Photo of our party on foot with an armed Ranger with signs of recent burning of the grass as was customary by the local tribes people. Walking around here made me feel for the first time what an antelope must feel like - you are just another meal to a lion! Since then I have also been to Ngorongoro (Tanzania), Amboseli (Kenya) and Kruger (South Africa) and this was the only time that anyone was ever allowed out of their tour vehicle. Once you are on foot, all the rules change as far as the predators...

Rugged "Land Rover"

by Bwana_Brown

Photo of the Land Rover that we took into the park for our stay, beside the local village where we picked up our Ranger guide. I was amazed that it could take the 10 of us and all of our equipment. We did manage to get it bogged down in a marshy area of the park but, with the help of a few branches and a lot of pushing managed to get it mobile again.

Visit one or more wildparks, see the animals, the trees and the flowers. And visit Vic Falls, they are unforgettable. Everything was a new experience, I liked the animals and the trees. But also the smell of a small wood fire, the laugh of a stranger, the sunset. And always a dove cooing somewhere far away.

White water rafting was a special treat. Here we are being terminated by THE TERMINATOR II...one of the class V rapids along the Zambezi...(I'm wearing the blue helmet and my sister is clinging onto the boat). We floated along the outside of the boat for most of that rapid....

See the Victoria Falls, the copperbelt [Kitwe, Ndola, Luanshya and Mufulira not forgetting, Kalulushi.].Livingstone is a must visit to see the 'smoke that thunders/Mosi Otunya or Victoria Falls. Time stops. There is plenty to do and lots of local clubs to visit. Squash, rugby, Golf and swimming to mention a few.

Better than Medicine

by tini58de

I arrived in Zambia with a severe stomach ache, but still I could not resist having lunch at Edina's place in Livingstone: no forks or knives, a bowl of maize pap and a bowl of chicken - and I felt better than ever afterwards!!!!

by Conor_P

If you're going to booze it up when you get to Zambia there are a number of good national drinks. The most popular bottled beer is Mosi, which is avaliable all over the country - it's very good. Another excellent bottled beer is Rhino, it is brewed in the copperbelt (northern region), and is popular up north. I think that both of these high quality beers are now owned by South African Breweries - but I could be wrong.Locals often drink the awful tasing chibuku, they find it hilarious when non-natives give it a shot. It is a milky coloured, wheat flavoured beverage with grain chunks floating in it. The most common brand is Shake Shake, so called because you have to keep shaking the container to keep the grain suspended. It's hard to drink enough chibuku to get pissed, unless of course you've had practice stomaching the brew.
