Map of Our Road Trips
Zambia is a fairly large country, although it does not appear to be so if you casually glance at a map of Africa. In actual fact, at 752,000 square km, it is slightly larger than the state of Texas and almost 50% larger than France! This map shows my road trips to Luapula and Northern Provinces, located in the northeast of Zambia. Altogether, I made four trips to Luapula (along the eastern edge of the Congo) during my 3-years in the country. Three of those visits involved simply driving over and back across the 'Pedicle', that strange bit of the Congo that sticks down into Zambia. The last trip was tied in with a visit to Northern Province which started with a drive south to get around the bottom edge of the Pedicle before looping back through Luapula Province.
