Funniest building in Lusaka

by Saagar

I honestly think the Department Of Revenue building is the funniest building in all of Lusaka. It is not nice, beautful or artistic or colorful - it is sombre, state like and stern. The intereting thing is that it simply looks like a cash register! Unfortunately I did not manage to snap a photo of it.

Find out what to do through "The Lowdown"

by Saagar

The Lowdown lists all restaurants, museums activities and other stuff there is to do in Lusake. Available at newsstands, hotel receptions, restaurants for Kw 3000,-Useful for finding all sorts of info and also to pick up special advertised offers for safaris etc.

Read the newspapers lately?

by Saagar

I have seen some newsprint in my lifetime, and the Lusaka/Zambia papers are not among what has impressed me most. I have a bad feeling that if news are fit to be printed, it has to be paid first. Most news items seemed to deal with crime, sports, mine workers' unrest and political factioning and infighting. You will not be enlightened about Zambia in a direct way by reading the dailies, sorry to say. But they certainly throw light on certain aspects of life in Zambia, and tell you the exchange rates and an approximate weather forecast.

Lusaka - what to do???

by Saagar

Lusaka seemed to me to be a staging post for excursions to other part of the country. There wasn't so much else on offer. There are monuments of independence and museums etc., but nothing really worth staying around too long to take it all in.Lusaka is a good place to replenish empty back packs for the next outing, and just about anything seemed available. There are several places where the locals and expats converge on, but I sense a certain class distinction at these places. You are where you go, sort of. The hippest place for upmarket nights out were the Archades with a whole range of eateries and live music, too. Shope close fairly early. The local arts and crafts market apart from the select and hot stuff (lobby of the Intercontinental Hotel) were rougher and less interesting thant their equivalents in Tanzania or Kenya.

Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity!

by genki44

You might have a variety of reasons why it would be difficult to go on a Habitat for Humanity volunteer trip, but don't let them stop you! Where there is a will, there is a way! All you need is two weeks off and the motivation and interest to DO IT!Here is a link where you can see what upcoming trips you may like to join:http://www.habitat.org/gv/schedule.asp

Bungy Jump at Victoria Falls

by genki44

111 metres of pure adrenaline rush! The bungi jump operates off the Victoria Falls Bridge and has a 100% safety record. Over 50 000 people have committed themselves to the thrill of jumping off the bridge. Challenge the limits of the mind and test the edge of fear by leaping off the impressive bridge, with the Falls behind and the mighty Zambezi below. Ankle and body harnesses are attached separately to clients. After jumping they are winched back onto the bridge. Photographs and video are taken of each jumper and are available for purchase.

Animal magic!

by TracyG

You absolute must, take a landrover safari into South Luangwa NP, both during the day and the night, also if you get the opportunity take a walking safari, as it is rumoured to be the best park in Africa to do so......The diversity of the wildlife and the amazing close-up shots of the animals. And on the night safari the site of 100's of pairs of eyes (impala) twinkling back at you.

Game Drive in Zambia

by scieyence

Small groups are the best because there is so much flexibility. Two of us were with a local driver who took us all around the preserve near our hotel. When a road was blocked from a tree fallen by elephant, we went another way. At one point we were mock charged by a small herd of elephant. Can you seem them in the trees?

Walking Tour of Victoria Falls

by scieyence

This place is almost dreamlike. You can hear the roar of the falls quite a long time before you see them. And just above the falls, you'd think you were along just any wide, calm river. Mr Livingstone was the first westerner to recognize the falls and it's a good thing he had his wits about him, because no one could survive a tumble over these cataracts!

Flight Over the Mighty Zambezi

by scieyence

A 15-minute flight over the Victoria Falls and mighty Zambezi river was plenty. While a unique experience, my stomach got a little topsy-turvy. I did get the chance to see a wider view of the falls and a herd of elephant swimming across the river.
