by Imbri Wandering through the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, near Masvingo, wondering what kind of people once lived there. I could almost hear their echoes between the stone walls. The stone that wasn’t warmed by the sun was cold to the touch, providing a cool haven in the corridors. It was old and beautiful and mysterious. The Ruins were built by the Shona over 500 years ago. Their fascinating history includes an attempt by colonial officials in the late 1800s to credit the Ruins to anyone but the local “savages”. Leave a Comment

by SirRichard GREAT ZIMBABWE RUINS To get to this amazing ruins, I took a local bus from Masvingo that stopped 1 km away from the ruins. Once there, admire the Great Enclosure, but avoid the 'touristic' village, a tourist trap. Don't miss the little museum, where you can see the stone birds that appear in bank notes, flag... This are the ruins of the capital of the great Monomotapa Empire, which reached its climax from 1000AD to 1400AD. The Great Enclosure, (see photo), is the largest ancient structure in southern Africa. It is almost 100 meters across and 255 meters in circumference. The walls are 11 meters high in places and up to 5 meters thick. The prevailing theory is that this structure was used as a royal compound. Unfortunately, treasure hunters removed most artifacts that would confirm this theory. Leave a Comment

by skyliner visit Victoria Falls National Park.
One of my fondest memories of Zimbabwe was looking at the night sky. We saw a shooting star our first night and could gaze at the heavens for hours...if we weren't looking toward the watering hole for animals. Leave a Comment

by dreamworld I landed in Harare, rented a car and drove around the country. OK it's not the cheapest way to visit Zimbabwe (car rental is extremely high since there are not so much cars in the country) but the most convenient. Roads are quite good and you can reach everything within a short time. >>> the first picture shows the beautiful Bridal Veil Falls in the Chimanimani area
On the top of my 'best' sites I will recommend : - Hwange National Park (Western Zimbabwe) - Chimanimani Falls + Bridal Veil Falls (North Eastern) - Mutirikwe (Kyle) Game Park next to the Great Zimbabwe monument (Southern) - Victoria Falls (of course !) Leave a Comment

by Road_runner take a flight by plane or helicopter over the Victoria Falls. Many people visit Zimbabwe for the Falls alone (and for rafting on the lower Zambezi river). Of course, don't miss the National Wildlife parks as the Hwange National Park for instance. Also a boat trip on Lake Kariba is great.
was a dinner at night in the busch. Great experience, but if you do this, be sure to get some advice about where to go and with whom. At night many wild animals are wandering around, especially around drinking pits. There are still lion families, but these are mainly inside the national parks. However, fences are very often damaged and it is very common to see some animals breaking out. In the pond of the hotel for instance we found a croco and even the local guys stayed away from the pond where the croco was taking a nap. So as allways, let's do what the locals do. Leave a Comment

by jaec My canoe trip on the Zambezi was the highlight of my visit to Zimbabwe. Ensure you take one on the Zimbabwe side as the Zambian side is more inhabited and game is scarcer.
Seeing elephants, hippos and large herds of buffalo on the shore as you lazily paddle by or just let the current take you past. Incredible sunsets on the river! Leave a Comment

by LAOWAI Apparently lots of people are dying from AIDS, not war, these days in Zim. I asked this coffin maker how many he can make in a day: 2. How many can he sell? 5. Photo taken in Mutare. Leave a Comment
