Petrol Comfortable shoes for when you run out of petrol and something to ward off the sun Anything that can double as petrol. Big bandages to reattach limbs quite handy too. Any, but don't photograph anything military. Petrol if possible Petrol

Antimalarials a must!

by TracyG

Rucksack or holdall, either will be fine, if you are okay about carrying either. Again sturdy shoes/boots for walking safaris, and some of the tracks around Vic. Falls can get quite slippy. Also a decent set of clothes for nights out and of course for high tea at the Victoria Falls Hotel..... Basic first aid kit, as well as insect repellant and anti-malarials - The Zambezi Valley is particularly bad. (This goes for Zambia too.) Film isn't really a problem to get apart from rural areas and Vic. falls! Even if you can get the film that you want in Vic. Falls it is often very overpriced, so it is best to take enough to cover your stay there. A mosquito net for sleeping outdoors . A waterbottle is a must, particularly for the walking safaris. The rhino walk in Matobo NP can get very hot, as can the ones in Matusodona.

Like all my other packing suggestions when traveling....my motto...PACK LIGHT!! No matter where you go...pack light...you don't need all that stuff!! TRUST ME!! you'll be so much happier!! You should bring light clothes for the day and heavy clothes for the night. I went in August 2000 and it was hot during the day and cold during the night!! light weight camera with a very good zoom, fast film for the dark and for running animals! Bring a sleeping bag if you're going to be on a safari!! Bring mosquito repellent..(i would recommend 'jungle juice'..i didn't get bit once my entire time in Africa) and bring a light weight pair of binoculars!!

I swear if I go back to Africa I'm going to forget packing any clothes and just fill up my backpack with used sneakers from Good Will. Many people there don't have shoes and you can trade shoes for just about anything that's for sale. If you're camping - and there are plenty of well-equipped camp grounds - make sure you take one of those large rubber flat sink stoppers. You'll find sinks large enough for laundry or dishes in the 'ablution blocks' (the building with showers and toilets) but none have plugs. Also, if you carry the second smallest size of mini-mag torches you'll find yourself very popular if you carry a bunch of spare bulbs.

Take a huge cooler bag of food as well as tin food, biscuits, cereals, etc. In Bulawayo we did get to a nando's restaurant but they weren't prepared for us! Stocks are limited.

LITTLE AS POSSIBLE!

A gym-size bag. Also, a bag that can be usedfor your camera and some smaller things. More film- Less clothes!! Always bring more than what you think you will need!! The lighter-The better!!

A tent is pretty handy, though not necessary in Zimbabwe. Jandals (like the teva ones) are really comfy when walking in the heat. Sun protection, especially when rafting etcetera in a sunny period.

Malaria tablets, sunblock, and musquito repellent are a must outside of the big towns. Remember the US $20 airport departure tax, payable in cash (US currency only).
