Hotel Restaurants: Hotel Restaurants

We went, my friend and I, to eat at the hotel buffet one night! As we started picking juicy meat slices and balls from some plates, we asked the cook what meat it was he was serving us! He told us to come back and ask him the question when we had finished eating! After diner, we came to him and were told we had been served elephant!!

Gray's Inn, Bulawayo: Gray's Inn, Bulawayo

The food here is superb, steaks which hang off your plate on either side! The service is brilliant from two oldish guys who really look after you. The hotel is a relic from the colonial days and it shows too. The beer is cheap-ish and you can sit in the huge front window and watch the world go by. Or, sit in the bar under the trees and just soak up some sun. The steaks!! Makes me dribble just thinking about them!!

Hotel in Nyanga - Rhodes Nyanga Hotel offers amazing English breakfast. It was my first time having a steak for breakfast! I ate everything I could (but still lost weight). Cereals, steak, bread, pancakes, eggs... I have never done such a overeating orgy in my life before and after this event. The hotel itself is quite beautiful and just vis a vis Nyanga Dam Lodges, where we stayed. You can also prepare a good low budget meal by your own. I lost a lot of kilos with that strategy! Cheese is a bit expensive (for Zimbabwe), but bread is good (in some countries it is awfull), you can also get cereals etc. You can try dried worms, if you like. I tried to prepare them myself, but they smell awful and I didnt like the taste. Here I am on this pre-prepared picture with Herald beside the fireplace, eating fried dried fish. Its delicious.

I discovered that something European might help me get over my sadness and missing Europe. So when I found a nice italian restaurant in Avondale, Harare, I was saved. I could breath again. A piece of familiar food was comforting - until I needed a comfort. That was not long. When you get over your cultural shock (if you experience one), then you learn about customs and habits of local people. A must try is sadza. This is hard-boiled corn mush. Its white, as you can see on the picture. It is eaten by hand (no forks or spoons!). So try to clean those before. Because many of Zimbabweans are eating just sadza (once or twice a day), they have lack of vitamins and proteins, especially children. They have big malnutritioned bellys. Since bananas are relatively cheap and affordable, I think they should be more propagated as a valuable food and recource of (some) vitamins and calories. On the...

The Boma (eating place) in (i think) Safari camp, about 4 km outside Victoria Falls. This is a tradional african restaurant with a wide variety of african food. Be sure to visit the 'sangoma' at the restaurant as well, he may be able to help you with future decisions :)The admosphere is great, with traditional dances, great food and very friendly people looking after your needs. Be adventurous and try everything. You will definitely find things that you would want to eat again, and some others that will turn your stomach.

The Boma. They have a great atmosphere, with dancers and singers, a fortune teller, a story teller and a delicious buffet that includes, mopani worms, steak, chicken, ostrich, warthog, impala, traditional beer. It is quite an experience. This picture was taken of our girls dancing with the performers in the BomaA great experience. Be careful though about applying repellent before going -- it is an open-air restaurant and we did get bit by mosquitoes, even though it was the dry season and mosquitoes weren't common. I and my friend's son liked the warthog. My son liked the chicken. The girls and my friend liked the steak.

The best place to eat all your moneys worth is the Boma (place of eating) restaurant. Every animal that lives in Africa and is edible will be freshly available! From traditional worms to crocodile, its all there. They also have traditional Ndebele tribal dancers that will dance around your table as you indulge in your new african menu. This restaurant is set under the open african sky.Price at this restaurant is 200 zimbabwe dollars to get in and it is eat all that you can. Now that is a bargain, what do you think... The best dish is the warthog, with a dash of tiger fish and an african traditional relish over the top. Do not forget the chibuku bear, an african brew that will put even the best of us out

The Boma Restaurant, in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, costs 1500 Zim $, and it’s worth everypenny! It was a feast, filled with sumptuous dishes and accompanied by traditional dance andmusic. I ate eland, warthog, ostrich, impala, crocodile, buffalo, wildebeest and mopani friedworms. I also tasted chibuku, a sour maize beer with the consistency of yogourt, and had a bottleof lovely red wine. It was an absolutely amazing evening! Highly recommended.

The Boma: The Boma

by skyliner

The Boma offers a large selection of traditional Zimbabwean food all served in an inviting setting, surrounded by dancing, singing, fortune telling, story telling and hair braiding. The price was extremely reasonable and we all had a fabulous evening. Barbeque Warthog! It was a favorite at our table. We weren't brave enough to try the mopane worms.
