our shop by sachara In Masvingo we spotted a very special shop, selling clothes for men, women and children and all kind of other goods. It was a shop called "Ali & Co", after our names, so we made a picture of it and had a little talk with the shopkeeper and his wife. Leave a Comment Theme: Sporting Goods

colorful cushion by sachara In Bulawayo and Harare we found some shops with very nice decorated cloth. We bought some cushions slopes, a bed cloth and a table cloth. Back in Europe we bought the same imported cloth from Zimbabwe. So we did in Germany and the Netherlands. Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

Borrowdale Street Scene by Bwana_Brown I was amazed at the variety of shops available in the Borrowdale shopping plaza in Harare! It was a very well constructed area of brick stores serving all shopping needs. The overall layout and ambience of the complex was quite pleasing to the eye as well. Even for a guy who doesn't care much for spending my time in close proximity to stores, this was enjoyable! Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Harare

sculpture from Harare by sachara The sculptors of Zimbabwe, especially of the Tengenenge Art Community are very known. I like the smooth shiny forms from the first time I saw an exhibition in the Netherlands. At the moment there are several galleries in Europe selling the Zimbabwean sculptures. Some sculptors visit workshops abroad. In Harare and many other cities there is a lot of choice of all kind of sculptures: cheap, expensive, heavy or very heavy, amateur- and professional work, tiny or huge ..... choice for everybody

The wood carvings!! Thats what I wanted, you may want something else. OK, you may find it. I picked up a detailed elephant, rhino ans a very pretty cheetah!! Also, this table cloth. All hand-crafted!!
Any where from $10.00 to $100.00US! Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

Thatched shop, Halfway House, Zimbabwe by TaberTouch This is really a compound, the closest thing to an American mall one is likely to find - a courtyard surrounded by lots of different shops, offering everything from antiques to local crafts to groceries, to meals and drinks.
Forget the antiques (unless you live locally) - the crafts and the candy made in Harare are what caught my eye. And of course by the time you get here, a cold drink and snack will seem like a really good idea.
Everything seems cheap given the dreadful inflation. While items might cost a bit more here than directly from teh crafter, the shopkeeper has done all the work of selecting the best work and bringing it to one convenient location.
