Falls craft village by sachara The Falls Craft Village in Victoria Falls town is a nice place to visit. In this village you can see different traditional ethnic huts, originally decorated in natural colours. The huts are prefabricated in the area of origin and moved to this craft village. The village is open from 8.30 am till 4.30 pm and on sundays from 9 am till 1 pm. Leave a Comment

by grets Waiting for us down by the jetty when we board the Sundowner Cruise, is a small group of traditionally clad singers and dancers with a jungle drum and a strange musical string instrument. One of the musicians comes on board with us, acting as scout on the front of the boat as well as playing for us. Leave a Comment

The statue by SirRichard David Livingstone (1813-1873) is probably the most famous explorer of the african continent. Among his many discoveries, he followed the mighty Zambezi in search of a means to access the interior of Africa. Accross his way came the great cataract. There's a statue of him in the Zimbabwean side of the Cataracts Park. Leave a Comment

A drawing of the Falls by SirRichard Thomas Baines was born in l820. He was an explorer, cartographer, diarist and scientific observer of fauna and flora and member of David Livingstone's Zambezi Expedition from 1857 to 1859. There he made some phantastic drawings of the waterfalls that you can see at: http://www.booksofzimbabwe.com/vicfallsprint.html Leave a Comment

Bargain for local crafts by PierreZA You will have to bargain quite hard to get to the price you are prepared to pay. It does take some time, so don’t be in a hurry when you are shopping for local craft etc. My friend bought an item of which the initial price was 85 US $, and he eventually paid 20 US $. The best is to have an idea what the item is worth to you when bargaining. It seems that many locals are prepared to swop their crafts for T-shirts, shoes etc.

Golden Pilsner by PierreZA Zimbabwe does produce their own beer. Where ever I travel I usually try the local beers. I had two local beers, Golden Pilsner and Zambezi Lager. Both were very nice, smooth beers and very enjoyable.

You will most probably have your first experience of traditional song and dance at the airport when you arrive. We were also entertained before we went on our sunset cruise, as part of the package. Traditional music usually consists of percussion instruments and thumb piano, accompanied by singing very harmoniously.

Africans are very much into trading for western stuff. Had I known they are into that, I've brought old clothes and small things to trade for local arts and crafts instead of buying. So definitely a few old things you can ditch along the way for souvenirs.

Bargaining is a way of life. So get used to it and don't be afraid to walk away. But do have a sense of humor because ultimately who cares if you spend an extra dollar on a carved elephant.
