 | Victoria Falls Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 27 | | We decide to have dinner at the hotel tonight, and the food is absolutely superb. David has chicken supreme, while I brave the crocodile in a cream sauce with mustard. Delicious, as is the dessert of ginger ice cream with mango sauce. We have two bottles of Pinotage to wash it down with. I wake at 01:30 with terrible stomach cramps, followed by severe sickness and diarrhoea, obviously the revenge of the crocodile. Leave a Comment

There is a steak with my name on it just below the e-cafe, in the Cattleman Restaurant. We lloked at the menu earlier and liked what we saw. There is not exactly a rush for the tables, but at least that means the service is good. The steaks are amazing, a 12oz fillet steak, tender as few, with pepper sauce, fries, onion rings, a bottle of red wine as well as apple turnovers and ice cream - all for under UK£10. We'll come again!
The best steaks I think I have ever had! Leave a Comment

A taxi has been arranged to take us to the reastaurant for the complete dining experience. On the road there, the driver swerves to avoid a herd of buffalo crossing the road. The members of staff at the Boma are all in traditional costumes; it is a big and commericalised place, it is so obviously arranged for tourists. This is a BBQ with a difference. As well as all the usual meats: pork, chicken, beef and lamb, there is buffalo, crocodile, kudu, wathog, ostrich and impala. OUr favourite is warthog, very juicy, tender and tasty. With the meat we have two bottles of Zimbabwean Pinotage. In a little hut by the entrance, the shaman is charging US$1 to tell you your fortune. I am predicted to have a long life, some illness but it will not be life-threatening, and my career will take a surprising turn. David is also to have a long life, no illnesses and a successful career. There is also a story teller walking around the tables reciting traditional folk tales, as well as a hair braider. The chap from the sundowner cruise is part of the dance troupe performing for the guests, and he recognises us, which is nice. The whole experience could have been tasteless, but it is actually very well done, and we really enjoy the evening, even though we eat and drink too much. Leave a Comment

I just had to try the Mopani Worms! They were well done, crisp, and did not really taste much. Elge tried the local beer Zambezi, and said it tasted good! (Elge is actually too young to drink beer, but the others kept giving it to him each time I turned around!) The group had splitted up and done different things during the day, like bungy jumping, rafting and microplane flying. We had a nice evening telling each other about our experiences. OK ambience, but more international than african.

This buffet is very good value for money. At 15 US $, you get a variety of starters, main dishes (meat and vegetables) and deserts. You could also indulge in a crocodile stir fry if you would like to know what crocodile taste like.

If you have been to South Africa, you will be quite familiar with this restaurant chain. The Spur is located at ‘The Enclosure’ at the Kingdom Hotel/Casino. It is best to AVOID this establishment. I paid 11 US $ for a very below standard hamburger. In South Africa, it would be about 3 – 4 US $. The place was extremely quiet, I can see why. This is a wonderful place to go for dinner. It has a great ambience, it could be described as African Urban Chic. Very colourful walls with interesting decorations all make this place quite unique . The service is very friendly and efficient. The food served varies from traditional Shona dishes to chocolate mouse and apple crumble. I is rather expensive though, especially the drinks. A small glass of Amarula Cream will cost you 5 US$. Mains are about 15 US$. The live music on the night we were there was great. A local band playing some well known African Jazz etc No Credit Cards

The restaurant at Illala Lodge was quite tasty and very pleasant to sit in, with a nice outdoor terrace and a piano player setting a relaxed mood. The service and food were quite fine, prices were reasonable, and the menu had plenty of selections for meat/fish eaters and vegetarians alike.
I had locally caught linefish with a mushroom sauce--very tasty. The bread served at this restaurant really hit the spot, too. Leave a Comment

We didn't feel like putting on fancy clothes to eat in the dining room of the über-colonial Vic Falls Hotel, so we decided to just have sundowners in the bar instead. I think we got enough of the experience. Drinks are preposterously expensive, but the atmosphere is nothing if not gracious. A nice place to sit and soak up the history. Leave a Comment
