    Although Anne and I did not get to see Vic Falls in all of its awesome power, I can say that it was mighty and impressive all the same. The lack of rain uostream had kept the roar and thunder under control but swimming in its waters, walking its "rim" and seeing it from the air made for a complete experience!

    After a few drinks and a short stroll across the escarpment you are offered the chance to swim across a narrow section of the river before taking a very scary swim in THAT rock pool!!!! What the hell, you know my motto.... "Don't die wondering"

    From here you are led back to a white tent where you are served "silver service" high tea.

    One thing is for sure, Africa is full of monkeys and the area around Vic Falls is no exception. Monkeys and baboons are in most parks and inhabit most leafy hotel gardens. Although they are often quite cute, they should be observd from a distance as they will sometimes come and steal whatever you are holding....especially food!

    All kinds of animals come down to the edge of the river for an evening drink, just like us tourists who are sitting on the booze cruise having our very own drinks! It is a good idea to take a few photos early on in the cruise to ensure that your photos don't get out of focus!

    The Bungi Jump Platform is off the Victoria Falls Railway Bridge, in no mans land between the borders of Zimbabwe and Zambia. So you will need your passport to jump.
    The cord is attached to your ankles with a self-loading knot. You are attached to the cord by a full body harness as well. Walk to the edge, take a deep breath and ... 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - BUNGI ! ! ! Leap as far away from the platform as possible for the best effect.

    COST = USD $75.00

    The sheer power and volume of water is not appreciated until you can walk along the edge of the escarpment and feel the spray stinging your face. Then, and only then, do you realise why these magnificent falls are one of the seven natural wonders of the world!

    Yes, you guessed it...Sheer madness at the top of a sheer drop! A local guide can be found to take you from Zimbabwe into Zambia and a walk of around 40 minutes across the escarpment will lead you to a pool that sits right at the top of a 107 metre fall!

    The cost for the border is US$10.00 for a day pass, US$25.00 for the guide and around US$10.00 for a new pair of pants!!!!!

    Livingstone Island is not much more than a lump of rock but it earns its grand name for three things; it separates the Main Falls from Horseshoe Falls and Rainbow Falls, the highest cataract. And then, of course, there’s David Livingstone. He reached the Falls from upriver and was rowed across to the island that would bear his name by local Makalolo oarsmen.

    The third thing is the tour that you can take that includes a boat ride, a welcome drink, a tour of the island, a swim in the rock pool that sits at the top of the escarpment (for those that do not want to walk across) followed by high tea with scones!

    The tour lasts for around 3 hours and costs US$50.00

    When David Livingstone first documented discovering the Victoria Falls he marvelled and quoted; "A sight so wonderful that angels must have gazed down on it in flight", and so it was comercialised and the Flight of the Angels was born!

    At US$85.00, you fly for approx 15 minutes over the falls and the Zambezi before landing back at the air field.

    Advertised as a "Sunset Cruise" that cruises on the upper Zambezi river, the "Booze Cruise" is a well equipped and well stocked flat-bottomed boat that serves as much alcohol and hors d'oeuvres as you can handle. While you cruise among the elephant, crocodiles and hippo you begin to loose yourself in the moment....if not the bar.
