Crazy... & it's not a song ;-)

by Sharrie

When u think u've seen it all, just a turn & the entire pix changes. It's even more dynamic than a person's personality. It's ever changing & it's fluid. It's one where u put meaning to everyone u see. YOUR'S!It's more fun too... 'coz it doesn't talk back. & sometimes it just rolled over & split into new formations.

Bill, Brad, Trip

by Sharrie

Bill & Brad made me laugh, a great deal :-)They are funny & have lots of stories from their world trips.Lucky fellas to be able to see the world as part of the package for their job.Trip woke us all up with his soothing voice & is a great leader. He's very hands-on for an Expedition Leader. I think that's an excellent attitude. He also has his fair share of travels & thanks for sharing the Panama adventure. It was great hearing his stories too!

Lots of penguins

by Sharrie

Errrrrr, I think you've to like the penguins one way or another. They are practically your neighbors. No problem for me.I love them.I think they are the cutest little things on Earth in the animal kingdom :-)But we were told they are sneaky.Well, they are surely not shy.In fact, they put up a great show when we were there.I think even Brad was enchanted, lol...He must have "murder" films on them lots (well, it's the Hongkongers' way of saying "wasting" films).Brad will understand... he knows how to play Mahjong! I'm impressed :-)))Ooops, my colleague actually wanted me to bring home a penguin for him! Will pictures do? I've loads of them!& to prove my love for them, I'll be back for more of these little fellas next time! Quark Expedition is the key ;-)

Introducing the professionals...

by Sharrie

B. & B. - you'll hear lots about them here. Brad & Bill. They were fun to be around... entertaining & with a great sense of humor (the American kind, & I think I understand that quite well ;-) ).I think we all get on well, yes?B & B actually own a film production company & go on board cruises for free & instead got paid for "shooting" penguins. Can u believe that? Some people have all the luck in the world!May I have a part time job, please? ;-)

Told him to join the club b4 heading out for Rio.

Other than the penguins...

by Sharrie

Icebergs are probably the most common things sighted here in the waters surrounding Antarctica.I've always been fascinated by these sculpted ice. They come in all forms & shapes & are the most beautiful objects one will chance on in our lifetime. To me, they are even more fascinating than whatever wildlife there's out there in the wintery cold. One has to respect these fragile & yet capable of sinking ships ice!If you think about it, it's amazing how much power they have! Our first sighting of the iceberg is one of the most special moment. It's afterall the very 1st!For some, it's their first iceberg in their lifetime. It wasn't mine, though it's equally impressive. One of the largest one I've ever seen & got close to.

In Perspective

by Sharrie

Everything in Antarctica is in terms of size.It gives one perspective as to how tiny we humans are... relative to nature & the elements. Here, at Neko Harbour where we first landed on the Antarctica Continent, we hiked up the mountain (well, some of us did) at Trip's insistence. If you clicked on the pix, you'll see it clearly.Humans vs mountains.Think of all those lands, haha... if only they are in Asia, we'll all be rich! But even in this part of the world, we humans are "fighting" for a share of it!Do you know that Antarctica is actually "broken up" into different parts & "owned" by different country.Although there's The Antarctic Treaty, we were told we visited the British & Polish "territory"!Just for interest, the participants of the Treaty are:ArgentinaAustralia Austria Belgium Brazil Bulgaria Chile China Colombia Cuba Czechoslovakia Denmark Finland France Germany Greece Guatemala...

Embrace the cold...

by Sharrie

Hehe... just joking.Look, it's not cold! It's fun... I'll show u more how much fun everyone had! Later...Right now, just enjoy the scenic virtual tour.I can only do so much with my lens.Really, Antarctica is an experience to be embraced yourself by being there. It can't be experienced through any other means. Not by a long shot!I'll try my best to show friends & family glimpse of part of my experience. Hopefully this will fuel the desire to see it in person!Truly, it's something one must experience given a chance.I hope to be back again soon. There's just so much to be discovered in this bigger than North America Continent! It's a place where human spirit is challenged to the fullest & where one learns to deal with one's strength & weaknesses as well!A place where one lives & learns...

Capsule of time

by Sharrie

I do not know where to start.Just returned from the Arctic (Coldfoot, essentially) early yesterday morning & here I'm going through the 1000+ photos I've taken of this trip alone. No, not just Antarctica but Los Angeles, the Falkland Islands, Buenos Aires, Houston, Anchorage, Fairbanks & Coldfoot! It seems like I've been away from "reality of life" for a long long time. In the essence of time, "human" count amounts to 24 days total. Not many to most. But in my realm of reality, it's like I took a quantum leap... one that has never happened on any trip b4.Perhaps it's due to the distances traveled, perhaps due to the remoteness of the places traveled or perhaps due to the "freezing" of the brain cells, hehe... if only I could freeze age & beauty, lol... I don't know.Felt like a dream... one that I don't wish to wake up from.Frozen in time...
