As befits any cruise, the Captain hosted a farewell party at the end of the trip. It was a gerat excuse to put on your glad rags and party until the early hours of the morning.
The guys knew their tour was at the halfway mark....and they were heading toward home...so they would do this crazy party with costumes and other nonsense.
Night lasts for six months... so plenty of time to enjoy "night life". Only problem is that there isn't much more than another bottle of beer and some old war stories to listen to.
Given the unpredictable weather you have to take the chance to land when ever you can. This landing was made at 1am in a snow storm, we finally got back on board after 2am. This was probably the most memorable landing of the entire trip
On board there is a good bar and lounge. For those wishing to save a bit of money, a bit of forward planning will help and you can make use of the many duty free shops in Ushuaia. As we were lucky with the weather and viewing during the daytime, everybody was in good spirits at night and there was always a reason for a good party. We had a good barman on board and he kept people smiling with his happy hours and specials. By the way, there's no shortage of good fresh ice for the drinks!
Surprisingly enough, McMurdo Station had two bars (Gallagher's and Southern Exposure) and a wine bar. Everyone is very friendly and drinking is the most common activity. Nothing quite like walking out of the bar at 1 am and the sun is high in the sky.
