white nights in the Arctic: the midnightsun: Sunshine all day long

by globetrott

Nightlife in the Arctic is mainly a bit confusing, as you will not have the feeling, that it is night at all, when the sun does not leave the sky all night ! Of course the sun might go down a bit but will never disappear completely behind the horizon, but it will start rising again before it goes down !For about 2 months you will see the sun to never totally disappear and that is the time of the Midnight-Sun. The time of the Midnightsun varies of course and the further north you get the more days that time will last. Get on a large hill or directely to the Northcape and watch the sun going down between 11.00pm and midnight and you will see that before touching the ocean the sun will start raising again. dress as warm as possible

Quiet Nights

by JohnniOmani

The Arctic nightlife is slow due to most places being dry communities with no alcohol but this is a added bonus at times. My nighlife experience included playing hockey with RCMP officers, playing basketball with local young teens, listening to traditional stories from elders, square dancing with locals, walking and taking in the views, watching movies and simply learning about the area from the locals. The Arctic is a slow paced life but one that should be experienced at least once in your lifetime.

Bla Rock Café: Tromso, Norway: a place called "stay sick"

by call_me_rhia

My very favourite spot, because of the great alternative crowds there: Bla Rock Café. They have more than 70 types of beers, it's motto is "Stay Sick", and the owner (Egon Holstad) is a Nick Cave fanatic that will keep you entertained for hours, or, like in my case, for days i believe that if you dress formal, you might not be let in

Mad Trapper: Inuvik: local bands and booze

by call_me_rhia

I got to the mad trapper because i could not keep my mouth shut. i was sipping a beer at the Mackenzie hotel, looking totally bored. Some guy from Regina asked me what was wrong: I said that I had never been to a most boring bar. Ops, he was the manager... and decided, instead of getting offended, that I should go home with a nice memory. He asked if I wanted to go to a fun place with him - i said yes... somehow he looked like he could be trusted. So off he drove me to the Mad Trapper and bought me a few drinis.. a local band was playing, locals were dancing, he introduced me to everyone. I had the time of my life! dressed should be enough. very informal place
